Discussion of the maps available in South Africa in the various sub-folders: Garmap, Navteq, T4A, OSM, etc.
More sub-folders will be created as we go along and the need arises.

Hi Eric, one thing to remember though, is that, if you want to transfer the map set on your other unit, to the Nuvi 1410, it will not work with the Nuvi 1410, as the gma. file for that map set is only licenced for that unit.

Browsing through the Nuvi this afternoon, I came across what appears to be an unlock code, a file named "gmapsupp.unl" seated in the Maps folder, together with an image file "gmapsupp.img", which is some 13,664kB in size. Could this be what I am trying to resuscitate? The image size looks a bit small to be a map at just over 13Mb?

Not that any of this makes any difference, because even if I have the unlock key Mapsource wants to go online to do so and of course the Garmin URL no longer is active.

So now after all my fiddling, no maps work at all on the Nuvi

After switching the unit on, the "Unable to unlock Map" (or something similar) pops up, and the only mapset showing in the settings is the OSM routable map, which is a free mapset and does not require locking/unlocking.

Will play a bit more tomorrow

Dankie Ferdie, Garmin word te slim met hulle idees!

I have two Topo Maps listed in Mapsource, haven't a clue which one is for which GPS, so I took the oldest one dated 2011 and hoped it would be for the Nuvi. It wasn't.

So this morning I downloaded the OSM SA Mapset zip file here:
http://osm.pleiades.uni-wuppertal.de/ga ... 445fd0ee3/
and unzipped it directly into my Map folder of the Nuvi.

All is good, the map set is fairly current (much more so than my old Topo) and it presents itself well, so all is good!

Thank you to everyone for their helpful advice!
