I came across this very useful program recently. It can backup all the maps, gma and unlock codes currently on your computer to be used later to restore to another computer or restore after a crash, remove maps etc.

Hi Jan,

I used JaVaWa to transfer all my Garmin stuff from my XP PC to a new Windows 7 PC. It was a seamless transfer and everything just "worked" on the new PC. I would recommend this program.

Thanks for the feedback Clive. It would also be a very good idea and useful to save a backup of all your map products on a memory stick or other suitable storage for recovery after a OS crash. I twice had to do a systems restore of Windows 8.1 Losing all my maps and other programs. It look like a very versatile program and essential to have.

Good idea, Jan, I have a couple of older smaller memory sticks and I will see how much space is needed to transfer a backup of everything to do with Garmin.

The15 map sets on my laptop total to about 5gb. They actually can just be copied between computers because it is only data. The snag is in Windows 8.1 they are located in the user App data folder which is a hidden folder and who knows where the will be located in future Windows OS releases. The program backs up data and restore or copy it to where it can be found by Mapsource and Basecamp.

Yes it is worth visiting. There are such a vast array of features it will cover a few pages to list all and describe what it can do. It is a must have if you want to move your maps to a new computer. Also important with the Garmap site now closed it will backup your unlock codes or copy them from your device to your computer to un lock the maps. We helped a few guys to reinstall older maps they lost due switching computers or system crashes. This program will do all that for you with no sweat. More important it is free ware with no strings attached that I encountered so far.
