And to add to what Darryl just said, you can reset the colour of those post/topics you are not interested in reading by clicking on the " Mark forums read" option top right hand corner of the index page.

Hi all,

The forum now has an added feature that will help with the viewing. How many times have you started reading a topic and want to comment? You then hit the Login link at the top and after logging in, the forum software takes you to the forum list. You then have to battle your way to the forum/topic/post you wanted to comment on. Through some clever lines of code that are available for download from the internet, clicking now on the Login link will bring you back to the post/topic/forum you were wanting to comment on in the beginning once you have logged in. Please feel free to comment on your experience in this regard.

Hi folks,

The forum has gone mobile friendly. A new template has been installed that detects if the forum is being viewed with a normal laptop/PC or a mobile device (Ipad/Tablet/smartphone), and then adjusts the display of the forum accordingly for easier viewing when on the road for the road warriors. For those who don't want to leave the comfort of their big screens, click on the "Switch to mobile style" towards the bottom of the page and enjoy the view. Once finished viewing the mobile style, click on the "Switch to full style" button to return to the normal looking view of the forum. Neglecting to do the last step will cause the forum to save the display of the mobile view and when the member logs in everytime, the mobile view will always be displayed until the member changes it. Have fun!

Darryl

P.S. I have managed to modify the mobile friendly version software to highlight uread forums/topics/posts in a magenta like colour, thereby making it easy to spot when using mobile devices to view the forum.

Hi folks,

I have added another feature that makes it easy to retrieve the Road Hazard Data from the comfort of a browser (which can be bookmarked). Point the browser to:-

http://rhdata.gps-users-forum.co.za

A login screen will appear and login as normally would be done on the forum. The page will redirect automatically to the RHData download page from where the RHData can be downloaded. Enjoy!

Darryl

P.S. If a member is already logged in, clicking on the link will redirect to the RHData page.

Hi all,

It has become necessary to remove a feature of the forum that has proved to be more of a pain in the :moon: . The Tapatalk feature has been removed due to the communication problem between the forum server and the Tapatalk server not being consistent. This decision was also further enhanced by the statistics of how many views were received by users using Tapatalk (being a dismal 4 - 8 views a month). The disk space gain on the server was a marginal 4MB and the pain involved in maintaining the application doesn't warrant the views/hits and communication problems. Sadly the forum will no longer be listed on Tapatalk, albeit the forum does have a mobile theme that does the job just as effectively when accessing it from a smart device.

Hope this helps.

We accept your decision Darryl. I know from the admin log how many times you have to reset the Tapatalk settings each month. If that is needed to keep the system stable I am sure that Guillauame one of he main users of tapatalk will agree. the main use

Hi all,

I have been a bit neglectful of the forum and have done a bit of housekeeping on a feature I have only used once. I have removed the Classifieds Mod (as it's also no longer supported on this older platform of forum software). The only reason why the forum software hasn't been upgraded to a newer version, is attributed to the Advanced Block Mod (that is in use to stop spammers which is also no longer supported on this older platform of forum software). As time allows, I will be investigating upgrading the forum software after I have done my homework on reliable anti-spam measures available for the newer software that will PROTECT the forum and not just deliver empty promises. So please bear with me while this is being investigated, albeit the forum software is currently running fine with little intervention from the admins having to chase nasties.

Testing. May have got it right to merge 2 databases to fix a bug.
