There still seen to be a few bugs in the "Trip Planner" with via points, hopefully these will be sorted out in the new models.

I got my 3790LT during May 2011 and at that stage it was fairly new on the market if I remember correctly.

The 3490 is not compatible with Garmap Topo & Recreation.....

Below a quote from the Garmap website.

"Please be advised that Garmin’s new PND range* and future PND products produced from 2012 onwards have not been designed to support the Garmap Topo & Rec map product. *nüvi 30, 40, 50, 2495LT, 2595LT, 3490LT, 3590LT"
