Trip Planner and Basecamp Interaction

#1167

Post by Montana »

I normally plan my routes on Basecamp and then transfer it to the Nuvi 3490. These routes normally have a few via's between Place of departure and destination. An example: Travelling from George to Pretoria I plan the route as follows: George->Uniondale->Willowmore->Aberdeen->etc->etc->Pretoria. When I transfer the route from Basecamp to the GPS it sometimes leaves out some of the planned via's.

It is not consistant. On certain routes all the via's are transfered to the GPS and other times only the Depature and Destination points.

On my old 1410 all the via's were transfered. There was never any exception. I was wondering why the new generation Nuvis (3490) can't do the same.

When I do use the planned route on the 3490, it behaves the same as on the 1410 i.e. when passing the first via, it auotomatically switch to the route segment to the second via. It does not require any human interaction by pressing for instance a "GO".

Any comment on this peculiarity?

Unfortunately I can not use it. It is not available for an Apple Mac computer.

Hi Montana: The results on the following in Windows 7 with BaseCamp: Beginning point............ 7 via's in between............ End point =9

# Nuvi 2595: Beginning point.............. 6 via's in between............. End point = 8
# Nuvi 500 : Beginning point.............. 0 via's in between.............End point = 2
# Nuvi3790 : Beginning point.............. 5 via's in between.............End point = 7
# GPSMap 62s: Beginning point..............7 via's in between..............End point = 9

I used the same map in all four gps's.( 2012-3 Garmap Streetmaps) with the same amount Via-Points (9)
Hope this answer you question. Maybe somebody else can help you with a better answer.

I agree. It doesn't look right. My old 1410 never had it wrong. Could be a Basecamp transfer problem. But then, I also used Basecamp with the 1410. Baie snaakse probleem!

I had no trouble with my previous 1410 and 710, Montana.
Two of my friends are the owners of my 1410 and 710 for a time now and they said
that what you put in BaseCamp, you get on the 1410 and 710.
So??

Cheers

Baffles me :!:

O wel, al wat dit tot geevolg het, is dat ek die "verlore" via's per hand op die Nuvi moet invoeg.

Oosie

Montana, just one last thing:
I mentioned it before. You cannot plan a route shorter than 20km on the 3790.
The gps would take you back toe the beginning point after you reached the
first intersection. believe it or not!!!!

@ Montana

Create Custom Waypoints for each Stop,
Dont Use Intersections or Adresses.
Try to rename them to something like STOP1,STOP2,STOP3
Create your route by using the Waypoints
Put your Route + the Waypoints inside a List in BaseCamp
Rigt Click the List and Send to Your Memory Card (Works better than sending to the unit.) (Long Story)
Once it's working right on the unit you can delete the waypoints if you want to.

Attached Example (Import GPX to your Basecamp)
CycleTour.rar
