Re: The actual server
Our visibility is still improving with only two key words we are now second on the list. I noticed that the overseas traffic is increasing but the spam measures prevent a lot of unwanted spam registrations.

The actual server's connection speed
Hi all,
A more recent test revealed the following results and I used the same test used previously to obtain them.
The ADSL line has been beefed up to a 1Mbps line as per Telkom's announcement to all 384kbps end users. Thank you Telkom.

The actual server and Telkom maintenance
Hi all,
What should have been normal system maintenance, caught me unawares and unprepared for what followed. The long and short is:-
Telkom did an upgrade to the network and that went off without a problem (as per their email).

Where I got blind-sided was when the firewall decided now is the time to upgrade the system software. After this took place, the custom settings to accomodate for the link to the dynamic dns host got broken by the update. A quick check revealed this at around 23:00 this evening, but by which time is was too late and there were probably many unhappy forum members. Fortunately, a copy of the "damaged" files were replaced with the good ones and all is resolving properly now. Thanks for your patience.Dear Telkom Internet User
In keeping with our continuous transformation towards improved services and customer experience, Telkom Internet will be conducting system maintenance. While it is possible that you may experience intermittent service interruption during the maintenance period, rest assured that your ISP will be taking every measure possible to prevent the same.
The maintenance period is Thursday, 31 January 2013 from 23:30 to Monday, 04 February 2013, 06:00.
Please feel free to contact our Technical Support call Centre on 10210 should you have any queries in this regard.
Warm regards
Telkom Internet Technical Support

The actual server and an Anti-Spam measure
Hi all,
We have had our share of spammers who have not made it past the registration process. We have also had at our disposal a nifty tool that is available at:-
http://en.utrace.de/
This helps us identify where in the world the culprits are coming from. To demonstrate:- This morning we had a visit from the Bing bot collecting data about the forum for inclusion in the Bing search engine (much like Google would also access the forum for us to be "googled', the same happened with Bing and now we can be "binged"). I did a Whois on the Bing bot and the pictures below tell the tale:-
Viewing Who is online revealed the Bing bot (second from the top) was browsing the forum (the index page) and clicking on the Whois link next to the IP address revealed the following:-
Hello Mr. Bill Gates and Co. Here we have a tool to see where in the world our visitors are from.
Hope this is informative and useful.
Darryl
P.S. This feature is available to the Admin for the purpose of providing the users with the added measure of safety from would be spammers.
