CN 2013.40 Accuracy
I have noticed that CN Map accuracy in Basecamp is not that good following the actual road. I compared it to the Garmap Topo over a stretch of road over the Swartberg Pass in the Western Cape (Oudtshoorn to Prince Albert). The Topo map in Basecamp follow the actual road accurately. The CN Map on the other hand does not follow the actual road and follow more of a straight line cutting all the actual bends in the road.
This is no good as far as I'm concerned.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
When you view the Maps from the Nuvi you see the Basemap (Large Vectors) in Basecamp at certain zoom Levels. This has been happening since 2010.
If you Download Maps to Computer you don't need the Nuvi to be connected to View maps and it will be fine.
You will also be able to use Mapsource.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
Joe, I tried to download the maps to the computer but the only option I get when trying to download within Basecamp is Invalid Product Key. The product key I use is the one on the card that came in the box. The only other alternative is to buy the maps which I think is rediculous. The Nuvi LMT was connected to the computer.
Maybe I'm using the incorrect method to download the maps. Garmin mapinstall only download to the Nuvi itself and not to Basecamp.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
There are options within GarminMapUpdater.exe to download to Computer and Nuvi.
Before you start the download there is somewhere you press to change the options.
The Default is to the Nuvi only
You have to change it yourself.
Extra Info:
How to legally unlock your City Navigator 2013.40
On your unit in the hidden /.system folder there is a file called gmapprom.gma
Get this file from the nuvi and copy it to the computer.
In Basecamp goto Utilities Manage Map products
Press Unlock regions Tab
Import
Files of Type Change to .gma (drop down list with options ucx and gma)
Browse to your Gmapprom.gma
Import it and it should unlock your 2013.40

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
I have downloaded CN2013.4 - no problems with the download and installation.
I have noticed that when viewing a route in Mapsource (previously installed), the track is way-off the road - and that is only in the vicinity of my house. It however "appears" to be in the correct place on the unit (perhaps because of the scale???).
Unfortunately I am not that au-fait with BaseCamp as I grew up with Mapsource which still fulfills my needs [KISS] so cannot comment there. Using Garmap Topo 2012.3 there is no problem. The variance with CN2013.4 can be up to 11m on either side of the road.
Will try tomorrow to see how it performs on a run with the GPS, however can foresee a possible problem when entering new waypoints/destinations into Mapsource for transfer to the unit - possible re-routing a longer way in built-up areas etc?
Would appreciate if someone could point me in the right direction on this forum (knew it on the old one) to take and capture screen shots from the computor to attach to a post and I can give visual detail once I have checked a little more.
Many thanks.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
@ Keith
Try to recalculate the route, maybe there is a change in this mapset or maybe the route was calculated under Garmap !!
If you ask for where am i on your unit does it give you the correct address @ 3 meter accuracy ?
Me too I still love Mapsource, Basecamp is too busy me thinks. But I still learn it just for kicks.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
I also had no problem downloading the new 2013.4 map and installing it on the unit and 2 PC's.
I found "recalculating" the route with the new map selected fixed the misalignment of the route and road and although I only tried it on a short route between home and work it seemed fine.
I also grew up with MapSource and far prefer it but have been forced to use BaseCamp for planning routes for my new 3760 which uses Garmin's ******* Trip Planner. I like to plan my route in advance on the PC, and if you transfer it to the 3760 using MapsSource it appears fine until you move of the route for fuel, food, deviation or something and then it "recalculates" directly to the end point of your journey missing out any "viapoints" you may have put in on the route in the PC.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
Hi all,
I have just downloaded CN 2013.40 too. Will give it a go at some stage and check the accuracy. Also had the download bomb out in the last 10 minutes and managed to get it downloaded again without blowing another 400MB of download (thanks to my squid proxy that's in place).

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
I've got a "bullet proof" method of creating routes for "Trip Planner"Silver Fox wrote:I also had no problem downloading the new 2013.4 map and installing it on the unit and 2 PC's.

Create your Waypoints in Mapsource Name Them someting like KZNTRIP1, KZNTRIP2, etc etc etc (to make them easy to find) (you must re-name them, don't keep the default name)
Place your Stops at the Actual Place you want to stop. (Say Halfway Restaurant at Van Reenen)
Place your Shaping Points NOT at the intersection but rather 300 meters after the intersection. (This Forces the Nuvi to turn at that particular intersection)
If you place the point at the intersection it will not tell you to turn, It will say "Drive to Highlighted Route"
Now Download your Waypoints from Mapsource to the Nuvi. (Don Not Download the Route Just the Points.)
Using Trip Planner on the Nuvi Join all your points in the correct order to make your trip. "takes just a few seconds"
After Creating your trip you can delete the Waypoints from Favourites or leave them.
You will get a Flag for Each Waypoint and the Nuvi will always recalculate to the next point.
After Updating Maps Routes,Trips need to be recalculated, 3490/3590 Does it automatically but other units it has to be done manually.

Re: CN 2013.40 Accuracy
Unfortunately I'm using a Mac computer and Basecamp does not have Utilities -> Manage Map Products.dasilvarsa wrote:Extra Info:

Also the GarminMapUpdater does not make provision to download the maps to Basecamp. One can only download the maps to the Nuvi.
It's a pity because I can only see the CN maps in Basecamp when the Nuvi is connected to the Mac and then this map shows the route inaccuracies as I mentioned in my previous post.
