Road Conditions - March 2013

#1484

Post by fugglefeet »

Hi all,

I am posting a link to a searchable PDF (courtesy of SANRAL) highlighting the road conditions throughout South Africa. Hopefully this will assist in being able to better plan routes or alternatives for when there is the need to travel.

Road Conditions - March 2013

If all else fails, here is the PDF for download:-

Hope this helps and maybe we can have this also as a regular feature like the RHD.

 Hi Fuggelfeet,
I am not so sure about these updates, I travel the N4 from Rustenburg to Swartruggens every Wednesday both ways and they are stripping the tar and retarring the road, they will be busy for the next few months

Hi Robsan,

I had a look at the stretch of road you travel and that falls under the Zeerust - Rustenburg section. Maybe a call to the SANRAL offices (012 804 0044) and informing them of the discrepancy in the information may help them to update it.

SANRAL have also however made for provision for any eventuality with the following statement:-

"Please note that the information contained herein could be subject to change. Routine Maintenance and Emergency Teams may be encountered."

Keeping information up to date is rather difficult.

Thanks Darryl. I will be travelling on the N14 from Centurion to Kgalagadi soon and the info in the doc helps to plan the trip.

Hi all,

I had a look at Streetmaps and this seems to be a collaboration between TomTom and Tracker (Case Study) that provides live updates every 2 - 3 minutes.

Could it prove worthwhile?

I understand that once they have completed the work (currently on-going) in Swartruggens they will be rehabilitating the road right through to Zeerust.

This is the kind of information I want to make available to the forum members and hopefully from an organisation (like SANRAL), for the benefit of the members and information that is up to date. The search for up to date information road conditions continues. Thank you for the feedback and input thus far. I want to look into making it downloadable to a GPSr.

"I want to look into making it downloadable to a GPSr."

How ?

POI ? I don't think having a POI at the Start would make the GPS avoid the Section of Road ?

Some Sort of a Help File ?

Maybe an Overlay Map ?

You Got me thinking Now ?

Hi,
The N12 Highway past Stilfontien is closed for unknown time due to a sinlk hole at the water towers When coming from Klerksdorp that is east the N12 is closed at Hartebeesfontein road, road users will turn right into Hartebeesfontein road left at circle into Stilfontein road straight to last circle turn left into JB Marxs road and strait on to the N12.
From Potchefstroom west the N12 is closed at the Buffeldoorn crossing wher road users can turn righ to Klerksdorp or left to the Orkney roade back to Stilfontein.
I hope this will help our road users
Regards
Robert
