Hi all,
A colleague owns a TT Start 20 and updated the device on his PC. Now when it starts up, it prompts you:-
Select your map (with the map choice just below)
When you do select the map, you are greeted with:-
Problem with map
You cannot use this map on this device
Southern_Africa-295
The device seems to be stuck in a loop and all attempts to rectify it have been exhausted. I have googled it and the stuff that is suggested doesn't work.
Any other suggestions?
Darryl
P.S. Out of desperation and needing a GPSr, my colleague resorted to buying a Nuvi 40.

Re: TomTom Start 20 problem
Update to the problem.
I have managed to get the device stuck in recovery mode as per this forum post:-

It would seem that I have bricked it.
Any help is welcome.

Re: TomTom Start 20 problem
I signed up on noeman.org, but haven't posted anything yet. I have however discovered that the software on the device is of the NavCore 10/11/12 variety. This is a Linux derivate that is used for the operating system of the device. When plugged into a PC, the device does not show up as a removable drive and cannot be accessed as would be the case with a Garmin device. Instead a new network connection is installed on the PC (running either Windows XP or 7) that connects at 400+ MB/s. The IP address of the device also falls into the wierd category of 169.254.255.1 and the following ports are open on the connection:- 22 (SSH) and 80 (HTTP). Beyond this I have not been able to make any further headway aside from trying to flat the battery and recharge to see if it can resume normal operation once fully charged.

P.S. All of this info is a result of intense googling.

Re: TomTom Start 20 problem
Hi all,
After some playing, digging and googling around, I have managed to get the bricked Start 20 to work with a fresh install of system software and maps from scratch you could say. The one little thing that was looked over and never given a second thought, was the MyTomTom software that is initially downloaded when you connect the device to ANY PC. If you suddenly experience issues with your TomTom not connecting to your PC, manually download the MyTomTom software from http://cdn.sa.services.tomtom.com/stati ... mTomSA.exe. First uninstall the old software from the PC/Laptop and once this is done, with the GPSr connected to the PC/Laptop, install the new version of software and allow it to install the updated drivers for the device. Immediately the bricked unit was recognised and the downloads started streaming in and once this process was complete, the device rebooted and was ready and waiting to be setup.
Let's see how this one goes and the experience gained here will be stepping stone to getting other units functional (that use the same OS).

Re: TomTom Start 20 problem
I know this one's so old I shouldn't even be posting here but there is a section specially for Start units (and others in the series) Link is http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/ONE-ST ... /tomtomone I'll ask a moderator of that section of Discussions to take a peek and post if necessary.
Must admit, to me one of the scary things I'm not used to is the facility to update/reload a Tom Tom GPSr firmware and more often than not this seems to give the units enough of a skrik to behave again
The link to Tom Tom's "Forum" named Discussions is http://discussions.tomtom.com/t5/TomTom ... ct-p/en_en then click on Go To and find an appropriate section. Plenty of wise stuff here.
