The Department of Transport, in a bid to promote road safety in our province, has expanded the average speed technology which has already been successfully introduced along certain sections of the N-3.
The latest innovation now includes the introduction of average speed enforcement along selected locations on the N-3 from Van Reenen’s Pass to the Marian Hill Toll Plaza .
This new technology replaces the previous “fixed camera” sites on the N-3 which had become ineffective as motorists knew the exact site location of these fixed cameras. Motorists would slow down just before a fixed camera, pass the camera and continue speeding and in doing so, effectively avoid prosecution.
