Nuvi 1300 Firmware

#1936

Post by Goosebeak »

Some of you will remember that I bought my SWAMBO a Nuvi 1300 as a present (back in 2011, I think). To tell the truth, it was a replacement for another present - I originally bought her a Tom-Tom unit for her birthday, which unit was a total disaster as far as we were concerned - the TT unit in question just flatly refused to navigate to any point not actually on an official road. Long story short, TT refunded my money after a very pointed letter from myself and I got SWAMBO a Nuvi 1300 instead.

Now from Day 1 the Nuvi was problematic - some days it would function just fine, and other days it would reboot in the middle of navigating somewhere and if you were approaching an intersection things could get very interesting. Garmin SA replaced the Nuvi, to no avail. This problem persisted since we got the Nuvi, but at least it was able (when NOT rebooting) to take us to places that we wanted to go - like a particular place in the parking lot of a specific shopping centre. The downside was that in a trip from Germiston through to Kya Sands the Nuvi could (and often did) reboot itself 6 or more times. I got into the habit of zooming out the display to check for any major deviations coming up in case the unit rebooted. :bang:

Of course, with yours truly being the Garmin proponent, this unit has brought me more than my fair share of nasty remarks from my loved ones :crybaby:

But last week I connected the Nuvi up to the internet and kicked off Webupdater. And lo and behold, ever since then I haven't had a single unintentional reboot! :celebrate:
I just hope this keeps up.

Anybody else had this experience? Anybody else find the firmware update fixed it? Has it stayed fixed?

The Nuvi 1200 of my friend Sydney did the same. I actually lend him my Nuvi 200 S the other day to go to a place near Bloemfontein a few weeks ago. I updated his firmware and Maps a week ago. Have had no feedback from him yet, will keep you posted.

FirmWare 620 (Latest) on Nuvi 1300 is stable.
Many previous versions of 1300 firmware were unstable and buggy.

Thanks! I really hope the unit is sorted now, then it will be worth my while to upgrade the mapset!

Update: Tonight I used the GPSr to navigate from home to OR Tambo (simple route, nothing too taxing). But on the way home I really screwed it around comprehensively - changed destinations about 6 times  , purposely deviated from the route, changed voices on the move, added Via points, etc. And she didn't reboot even once!
:celebrate:
So it seems that the Nuvi 1300's latest Firmware update has finally done the trick and made the unit worthwhile. :xcool:

Now I think I can maybe invest in the traffic interface and a map upgrade. At long last! Well done, whoever was responsible! :salute:
