TOPO Southern Africa 2013 PRO

Discussion of the maps available in South Africa in the various sub-folders: Garmap, Navteq, T4A, OSM, etc.
More sub-folders will be created as we go along and the need arises.

My Street Pilot 510 and Nuvi 200 came with the map set on SD card. They can go that way and still give the client the option of which way to go.

The R1299 could be a promo to get the mapset into the hands of the users. No-one scoffs at a R200 discount. Maybe Garmin is taking heed to stay ahead of the pack.

Yipeeee!!! Finally a DEM option! Just a pity for the price, lets hope updates will be at a discounted price similar to the garmap philosophy - or even free!!!

Yes the Garmin Topo Southern Africa 2013 Pro will render a DEM display on compatible units. Now if someone brave enough buy and install it on one of the current Nuvi Models we will know if we have a functional Dem Map set again. Interesting is that it has the exact coverage area of the now defunct Gapmap Dem Map set.

Yes - Seems to be a combo of the Garmap products DEM, Rivers and Dams and TOPO. (With 20m contours, like the old TOPO's CI iirc. The DEM's CI was 200m.)

Now would the Streets be 'Garmap' or Navteq?

Well, I am off to find the SD (to use in my various devices, will also test my Nuvi) tomorrow, will report back.

It think it will be based on the same data as the Garmap maps. Even the current CN maps are not all based on Nacteq it is an combinations of a few data suppliers.
