TOPO Southern Africa 2013 PRO

Discussion of the maps available in South Africa in the various sub-folders: Garmap, Navteq, T4A, OSM, etc.
More sub-folders will be created as we go along and the need arises.

Thanks Pieter for those awesome screenshots of the mapset. Makes me keen to see it on my own device.

Wow, thanks for the screen shots, have got me interested now!

Couple of questions, any idea how updates will work?
If you get the downloaded version, how do you link it to your specific unit?
Do you have to connect you unit to the computer in order to view the maps in basecamp?

This is all I can think of for now, will bother you guys again.

Thanks,

That is a few very good questions MuskieT and only Garmin would be able to answer a few of them, like upgrading and installation on your computer. Regarding unlocking it for your unit it will need your unit to be plugged into the computer during the download. If the download is channelled through Garmin Express there is a good chance that you may be able to install it on the computer at the same time if you tick that option on the program. I will try on Monday to find out more regarding upgrades from Garmin SA

Thanks Jan. How does the SD card version work, is the maps liked/locked to the specific card or does it also get locked to a specific unit? ie. can you insert the same SD card into different units?

When you buy a SD card the licence is linked to the card so you can use it in various units. But if you try to copy the SD card the licence is lost and the cards become useless. At leased that is what is was like previously and a doubt they would change the system.
