Nuvi 200W

Post by fugglefeet »

Hi all,

Since my father-in-law lost his Nuvi 2200 in a motor vehicle accident, we took the opportunity to get him another GPSr. We managed to find a good working unit as mentioned above. I updated the firmware, uploaded maps onto the device and tested it. He is just too happy to have his GPSr there in the car for when he has to navigate through the streets of Potch. He was also more than happy to pay the R200 for the Nuvi, knowing I would be able to do all the necessary updating and loading of POIs onto the unit. It gave me the chance to reminisce of the days when I had my Nuvi 200. Looking at the supersession history of the device, things have definitely advanced toward better equipped units. Technology still has its drawbacks, since I cannot warm my feet in a microwave.

Great little units. My Grandson is now using my old Nuvi 200 S and he is very happy with it. Coming down from JHB to Welkom last weekend he used a borrowed Nuvi 52.The owner had the avoid toll roads box ticked and the GPS navigated past Sasolburg to Parys which was their intended route. Then at Vredefort wanted them to turnoff to Vierfontein/Bothaville. Grandson was very upset that the "useless" GPS tried to navigate them in such a round about way. The reason for this was that the direct route from Vredefort to Welkom past Kroonstad they took, took them along about 2 km along the N1 which is classified as a toll road along that stretch. What I am trying to say is that it is advisable to closely look at the route calculated by your GPS before you start your trip. Always remember that your settings and preferences will influence the way the PND calculate the route.
