Nuvi 7xx Firmware

#672

Post by Guillaume »

Good morning

I see that new firmware for tyhe Nuvi 7xx is out - version 5.40 (up from v4.90). It looks like quite an update... Change history include:

Changes made from version 4.90 to 5.40:
Fixed an error that caused devices with lengthy trip logs to shut down.
Fixed an error that sometimes caused units to shut down after upgrading software.
Important: This software update will restore user settings to default.
Added support for a second map on an SD card.
Fixed an error that caused the 'System > About' page to freeze.
Added the ability to turn off continuous alerts for speed cameras
Added a Troubleshoot button in the Bluetooth menu whenever Bluetooth is enabled
Added a prompt to select a country for Address searches when using maps for other countries loaded from SD cards
Corrected the handling of Address searches when using maps with and without multiple countries
Corrected several routing-related issues
Corrected several issues with the TourGuides
Corrected POI dialing in Australia
Corrected an issue where voice selections were lost when entering then leaving charging mode
Corrected an issue where Find cities would not find cities whose names contain a diacritic 's'
Improved Fleet Management protocol support and corrected some Fleet Management-related issues
Improved Stability

Has anyone updated to v5.40? Any problems?
Thanks
Danda

PS: Mods, any chance of getting a "Nuvi 7xx" under the "GARMIN'S "ON THE ROAD" MODELS" forum?

Thanks for the heads up on the firmware update Danda. I have created a Nuvi 7xx sub forum for you under Garmin on the road models forum

I own a nuvi 715. It seems that there's a difference between 7xx and 7x5. The latest firm ware for 7x5 is as follows:

nuvi 7x5 (GCD File) software version 4.50

as of September 6, 2012
Use myDashboard to install this file.

Changes made from version 4.40 to 4.50:

Fixed an error that sometimes caused the device to disconnect when updating the map.

Hi all
I'm relieved to have found this new forum after just discovering that the old one was defunct. Good to see many of the old names again.

To the topic in hand: I've just upgraded my Nuvi 710 to 5.40 (from 5.30) after just experiencing my first rash of devices freezes ever (must be unusual for a 710).
I had to do a hard reset to get out of the recurrent "freeze after startup" scenario, and then discovered the existence of the upgrade through Webupdater.

It's too soon to give any worthwhile feedback on this release, except that to note that my system settings remained intact after the upgrade, in spite of the statement in the release notes that defaults would be reset.

I'll report on any issues as time goes on.

Mi old friend the Nuvi 710 sudenly started rebooting every ten minutes or so, while on holiday.
I anded up navigating with my phone.

Upon returning home, I hooked up the unit to my PC and ran the Webupdater.
There were a lot of updates for this old unit and after the updates it's working flawlessly.

I bought a second 710 from Cash Converters for R100 because "it would not switch on anymore".
Went through the same procedure as with my unit and what do you know, a working unit for my dad!

Yes Theo there is still some useful life in the old models. Both my Street Pilot C510 and Nuvi 200 are still in daily use by my Grandchildren in Johannesburg. The only regret is that upgrades of the Garmap range of maps are no longer available for them
