Reinstall Garmap mapsets

#3874

Post by GavinWood »

Hi Wise Ones

Was previously registerd but had no idea about my username so had to reregister

I have a new pc and have installed basecamp (and mapsource) but now want to install the mapsets i own ie topo 12.3, streetmaps 12.3 etc.

I have the dvd but the install wants me to go to the garmap website - which of course no longer exists- and then bombs out. I have the necessary unlock codes etc for the mapsets and 2 gps receivers.

At one stage i rember being able to install the mapsets directly from their folders (?) but cannot come right for 2012.3

Any advice or pointers?

Welcome back Gavin. Originally it was possible to install the maps directly from the DVD without going to the Garmap website. When they upgraded the security measures and introduced the gma codes they made it difficult.
If you still have your old PC and it is still functioning it is very easy to transfer the files.
If you go to C:/users/(your account name)/app data/roaming/garmin there should be a folder "maps". Copy the entire folder to a memory stick or sd card and then copy it to the same location on the new PC. That should do it. The app data folder is a hidden folder
and you need to tick the box and View to be able to see it. It is olso possible to copy the CN maps this way but they are located elsewhere.
I am sure I have also bypassed the garmap installation route by disabling auto run on my laptop and the brows for the maps to install on the DVD. Unfortunately I am on holiday and far away from my DVD's so I will rather not try to advice you on how to do it that way. I will see if Frans or Darryl would be able to help you. I will point them to this post tomorrow.

Hi all,

I had a hard drive failure so the gma codes are not longer available. I had Garmap SA TOPO 2012.3 installed. What do I do now? Since the Garmap website is closed I feel a bit lost, it was so nice having all the map info in one spot.

Cheers

Oud word is nie vir sissies nie. When I replied to Gavin's post I forgot about the easy way to do it. There is a program available called JaVaWa GMTK, a very handy piece of software to have around. You can backup all your map data and unlock codes to an external storage device and restore it when needed. You can transfer map from one computer to another and just about any thing you can think of. Most important in your case you can import your unlock codes from your GPS to your computer and the software will install in in the correct folder so that Mapsource and Basecamp can read it, I posted a link to the site in useful information during May and forgot all about it.
Here is the link to the site and you can read the full description of all its functions on the webpage.

And a link to discussions at useful information and links

Riaan, did you come right? Do you have the disk or download file for the TOPO maps?
