Nuvi 2597 LMT map updates

Got the unit in 2013 and kept it up to date, maps and firmware, with Garmin Express.
But I have just realised that something is odd with the updates. (Don’t know how else to put it)
The latest map version on the unit is City Navigator Southern Africa 2015.2 which tells me already that it is a year old. And this is after Garmin Express tells me the unit is up to date. (firmware is 5.10)
What I also notice is that Garmin Express is talking about "nuMaps Lifetime" and nothing about City Navigator. Does this mean the unit will not get CN maps anymore? And by the looks of it no real map updates under nuMaps.
This is not the so called "lifetime maps" I bought into
Any suggestions ? What are your experiences?

Early on when Garmin switched to City Navigator Maps the first Units that was sold had a limited map update policy. Later on a voucher was included with new purchases which you were required to redeem during registration of the unit to ensure Lifetime map updates. And later still the lifetime map updates were loaded automatically during first registration. The LMT indicates that your unit was purchased with lifetime map and traffic updates. It look like the Garmin website does not recognise that your unit is entitled to new updates and I suggest that you either phone or visit Garmin South Africa for assistance to sort out the problem. You may also try to log onto the website if you are registered (if not register) and see if the units is registered on their site. NuMaps are their market name for CN maps and you can either purchase a once off update for those units that came preloaded with Garmap maps or you can purchase lifetime update for those units that came preloaded with city navigator and were purchased prior to preloaded lifetime updates.

Yes MapUpdater have helped me out a few times when Garmin Express failed me.
A few screenshots to help you to determine if your unit has been registered on the Garmin website.
Registration must be on Garmin.com not Garmin.co.za
After signing on click on product registration and the on my products to see a list of your registered units
Clicking on details for more info for a specific unit

Ek sien as jy garminupdater run dan download hy outomaties die nuutste een. Ek gryp toe sommer die nuwe een uit die windows temp files uit en hou hom eenkant.

Ps. Ek sien hulle het darem die R384 tussen Carnarvon en Vosburg bygesit, want ons gaan weer daar ry Desember, laas het die Nuvi mal geraak want hy het nie geweet van die pad nie

I thought I would post this in the discussion on 2597 LMT map updates as it is an issue between the unit itself and the latest NTU 2016.3 update.
I recently updated the CN Southern Africa NT maps to 2016.3 on both 2495 LT and 2597 LMT units. Since the update, the Junction View feature is working on the 2495 but not the 2597. Junction View was working previously on the 2597 with 2016.2 and earlier map sets. I checked the .JCV file on both units and they are identical. I have tried all the usual remedies such as re-loading the map and performing a hard reset of the unit but without success.
Has anyone any suggestions before I take the unit in to Garmin to have it checked?

The one thing that you may not realize is that you have to have a destination entered into your Nuvi before you will see any junction views. Just driving with the Nuvi turned on and the map screen showing will not cause a junction view to appear

Assuming that the problem is something else

Did you download the map directly via Express or download to your PC first and then use MapInstall to send to your GPS? The latter doesn't install the junction view file. You may check to see if the "modified date" of the .jcv file match that of the map files to ensure that the correct junction view file is on the unit.

You seem to have covered all the bases and I can't think of anything else to do.

The direct form the PC using mapinstall caught me out once. The early versions of Garmin Express used to do a complete re download of all the map data for each installation using a lot of bandwidth and I tied to bypass that to save a few mb's

Anyone with a solution please feel free to pitch in.

Thanks Jan. I used Garmin Express on both units and all the files match and are identical. .JCV Modified dates correspond to the map image dates as well. I have been using both units on the freeways with destinations set - one works but the other doesn't! I'll see if anyone comes up with something soon otherwise I'll drop in to NavWorld in Strijdom Park which is fortunately just down the road from me!
