a belated 'Hi' from Stellenbosch
Been a member now for nearly two weeks and only now read my first post from 'Admin'.
Have a Nuvi215W -2nd hand from family - after my QuestII was involuntarily 'donated' one morning - blessing in disguise.
Now I can add the the RHD - and it is impressive work done on this database.
I noticed my hometown is not fully mapped w.r.t. 'boggels' - I started on a few and realised the place is looking like a chickenpox outbreak.
Will send the data in as per the PDF-manual with the RDH data.
What is the format of the data-submission? A gpx-file? A separate file or do I amend the existing gpx-file in the RDH-folder?
W.r.t. mobile cameras (or 'green mambas' around here) the authorities has started to have small boxes placed around town with speed-cameras, initially green (hence the moniker), then yellow and now plastic-grey. They're popping up quicker than weeds from a freshly manured/manicured garden...and then disappear of to another infestation. Can I plot all the places where they have made appearances for the MT-files in the RHD?
Thank you for providing this forum as well as the data.

Welkom Retief. Frans is looking after the Data base. He keeps the data in Excel where it is easier to add, delete or manipulate the data. You can down load the report form from here and email the completed form to him at xxxxxxxxxxxx or me at xxxxxxxxx
RHD contributions are always welcome. I noticed the new "mobile" boxes that they start using in the Western Cape. The problem with them is that they move them around randomly and it would be very difficult pinpoint a meaningful position to place the warning. We will have to think of a innovative new way to present this. It may be an idea to give us a start and an end point for the zone they place the boxes so that we can sett up warnings for the whole zone at a predetermined interval.
The other thing is that a mobile camera need to be manned to be legal and a fixed camera need approval before it can be installed. I think the idea behind the boxes are to take advantage of the scare factor to generate income and secondary to keep speeding in the area under control, the calming effect. Very much like the ASOD zones on some of the major highways.

Jan,
Thanks for the quick reply and the report-file.
W.r.t. the camera-boxes: they are 'fixed' in the sense that a cement-platform is prepared and the box then bolted onto that. (can be removed easily by the operator).
So there aren't any 'zones' to speak of, but rather multiple fixed points where a camera might be. Technically this would then qualify as a 'fixed' camera, rather than a mobile camera?
The problem for the database is that a lot of 'false-positives' are generated where the user will not see a camera as indicated by his GPS....thinking the data is incorrect, generating a number of 'corrections'-submissions.
Maybe a new category should be considered just so there aren't unnecessary corrective submissions?
I'll get my data in for the next month.

Yes they would legally fall within the fixed camera range. My daughter used to stay in Somerset Wes but moved to Knysna. Along the N2 between Sedgefield and Knysna there are a lot of hidden driveways and they are using the same type of thing along that portion. This is what prompted me to call it a zone. Where it Is placed randomly in various streets it would be virtually impossible to create something that does not "Cry Wolf" too often and then just getting ignored. I will discuss it with Frans and see if we can come up with something that may work.
