Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
I an new to this forum. If I posted in the wrong discussion please forgive me, I can not find a topic on the NuviCam
I am trying to install the Garmin Cyclops data on the Nuvicam and although it downloaded some data it does not seem to work as I receive no warnings of camera positions that I previously received on a Caska Garmap unit. I am trying to explain this to Garmin support but they recon the file structures are OK. I first tried the demo and even purchased the subscription but I am getting the same results. I am pulling my hair out (the little I have left)
On Basecamp I see the following custom POI files but the Cyclops file looks much to small (49 KB) and why does it say SouthAfricaCyclopsSample. (Can I post pictures of screen grabs her?)
Is it possible to see the Camara locations in BaseCamp. I see nothing when I select Custom POI from the view menu.
Does the RHD files on this site include speed camera information?

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Welcome to the GPS Users Forum. Our Apology we should have crated a spot for the NuviCam. I will do so any move your post but for the time being we can carry on here.
Here is an extract form the Garmin SA Specs on the NuviCam
Keep an eye on safety cameras
nüviCam LMT contains our unique Cyclops Safety Camera system, for real-time, direction-relevant alerts. The full safety camera database is already pre-loaded on your navigator. To update to the latest safety camera locations a subscription may be required.
From this the unit should have been preloaded with Cyclops and you should not have any problem loading your purchased update.
Our RHD is an extensive database that includes speed camera data. It has been setup to incorporate voice warnings. My best suggestion is for you to try loading the "RHD for devices without sound" The system is setup to load the .gpi file directly to the unit using Garmin Communicator. Garmin Communicator can be downloaded and installed directly from Gramin.com. Note .com and not from .co.za Garmin Communicator in only compatible with either IE or FireFox. If you r are using Windows Edge as your Browser you can upload the data by opening the Data link(RHD in gpi format) at the bottom of the index page and the go to settings (the 3 dots top right hand corner of the browser and then click on open with Internet explorer. Click on the download option and the data should download to the unit. If it works than we can guide you through more advanced setups and options.
You can upload image files in .jpeg format but only after your third post. The 3 post restriction were introduce to make it difficult for spammers to post their dirt on the forum. It is a bit inconvenient but saves the moderators a lot of work getting rid of unwanted posts.
Frans has some experience using cyclops and I will point him to this tomorrow. I am sure he will be able to give some advice as to what else to try. It will of great interest to know if you get the RHD to work on the NuviCam so any feedback and screenshots will be much appreciated.

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Naand Mnr. Pienaar,
Belangrikste verskil:
Ons data kan jy op Mapsource of Basecamp sien, m.a.w presies waar 'n kamera sit. Met Cyclops nie. Jy gaan slegs die waarskuwing kry op jou unit.
So moenie soek vir hulle poi op Mapsource of Basecamp nie.
Groete,
Frans

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
I have never loaded Cyclops onto my Nuvicam, so I am not qualified to comment on that system. I do however download and install the "RHD for devices with sound", which I find works pretty well. I get verbal warnings for camera's etc, and I can see all the POI's on basecamp and Mapsource. As regards the SD card, I have installed a 64 GB card which I utilize only for my Dashcam recordings

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Thanks for the feedback Neill It is much appreciated. Also it good to know that our RHD file setup is working as it is intended to do. Also our thanks to all our contributors who make it possible to update the data monthly. I have never used Cyclops nut I do know that our data contains more than 6000 safety warnings which is quite substantial.
It is good to know that the Nuvicam is compatible and is working well with our data setup.

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Thanks for all the replies to my query.
I downloaded the RHD file to my unit and the process was seamless. I am getting many warnings like crime areas, accident zones and speed camera warnings form the RHD file, works great.
Garmin did get back to me and e-mialed the cyclops data files to me, yes the gpi file is only 49k but it still reads ...sample.gpi - strange. I have however not seen a single cyclops warning yet, but I have not driven many routes, so I will watch out to see if I do get any.
The unit works very well and I like the big screen. Fortunately my car has a big windscreen so I could mount it without onscuring much of my view. I am surprised by the quality of the dashcam video's and it seems like there is some sort of image stabilising as the video's are very smooth. The lane departure warning seems to work quite well with solid lines but it is not 100% and can be fooled by seams in the road etc, withch is totally understandable. I switched of the forward collision warning. The traffic warning systems works very well on the highways but I have not really tried had the opportunity to test it on other routes. I paired the GPS to my cell phone but the problem with that is that the traffic system then seems to prefer using the cell phone data and this uses a lot of data. The only way I could disable that is by completely removing the Garmi app from my phone as I could not find a way of turning off the bluetooth link without disabling bluetooth completely.
Thanks again, I am going to spend a lot of time browsing this forum.

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Thanks for the feedback and comprehensive report. You may at some stage want to try the RHD with voice warnings. It basically replace the ding-dong warnings with a TTS voice warning. As you most likely saw from Neill's post it is fully functional on the NuviCam

Re: Cyclops on Garmin NuviCam
Jan, I am going to give the voice warnings a try.
I thought I had a bright moment when I noticed that the GPS unit has a "up ahead" function that highlights selected POI's on your planned route. I did not have the Garmin safe cameras selected and thought that that was the problem. Made sure it was at the top of the list, still nothing. Shows the distance to petrol stations etc very nicely and but no speed cameras. Will continue to monitor.
