Jane Sound File

#4278

Post by Phillip Coetser »

Hi guys, Phillip. Does anyone know were I can download a voice file, British Jane, that speaks street names for my Nuvi  . Currently the voice files for my Nuvi, Emily and Serena,is not to my liking anymore. My Nuvi does not include the voice file Jane, and there is no English voice files, as per Web updater or Garmin Express, available for my Nuvi. Is it possible for anyone that has a PND, with the Jane voice file vpm, to upload it in a zip file to the forum: will it work on my Nuvi?

Regards.

Hi Phillip On the question will it work. Garmin has used I think 3 versions of TTS files. TTS TTS 2 and TTS3. The latest units use TTS3. which is more natural sounding I believe. I am not sure how compatible the various versions are on the different models. I had a look at the voice files on my Nuvi 52 and the best I can do there is Australian Karen. The vpm for Karen is around 2.4gb

Hi Jan, thank you for the reply. Yes, the voice files differ from one PND to the other. I don't see any TTS files on my PND, only VPM files and they are quite big, as you rightly stated. I think Garmin has sized down on voice files available for all PND'S, because of the voice files sizes. Ahh well, suppose I've got to stay with the current voices on my PND, and mute the sound whilst travelling.

Although the are .vpn all voice files that "speak" street name are TTS based (texts to speech) a bit confusing I known. TTS voice quality improved a lot over the years. The Australian Karen voice file receive good ratings on most of the forums a visited to see if I can find a download link for you for Jane. If you kan find someone in your area to copy the file from maybe you can give it a try. I will buss next time we go up to your area if you are still looking for Jane. I am sure my Daughter is staying quite close to where you are.
