In our other forum we deemed it common courtesy to say thank you when someone has gone to some trouble in helping you out.
Just before closing someone posted something about people popping in, ask a question and you never ever hear from them again.
So you never know if the problem was solved, or whether the person stayed away because he reckoned he got bad advice.

Hi All,

The closest I can get is a Thanks button for now. I have tried some hacked setups that just didn't do it. The Like button referred to by Bosluis on Noeman is unfortunately proprietary software that would need outlay of money. Give me a bit more time to have a look around to see what I can come up with. Somewhere this has been done, I'm damn sure of it and I am not seeing it immediately.

Darryl

P.S. We have a Thumbs Up Thanks system and it looks like it MIGHT do the trick. You can also Thumbs Down by removing your Thanks too. It also reports who says thanks to the poster.

Hi All,

To elaborate more on the Thanks system (a picture paints a 1000 words), if you have a look at the picture below:-
Thanks.jpg
To the right of the QUOTE button in Metro Nomad's post, is a Thumbs Up icon that you can click to say "Thank You" for the post and likewise show that you like what is said there.

Once you have clicked on the Thumbs Up icon, the post will then look like this:-
Thanked.jpg
You will see at the bottom of the post that "Username" (where it is yours or someone else's) has thanked the author for the post. The Thumbs Up icon has now changed to a Thumbs Down icon and you can delete your Thanks.

In the first picture at the top right between Menbers and Logout are 2 extra Links called Thanks Toplist and Thanks list. Clicking on these will take to these 2 lists that gives a breakdown of their respective listings

Hope this helps.

Darryl

Hi Bosluis,

Sorry, I had to get the permissions (huh, the cheek of this forum software  ) sorted out and now we have the "THUMBIES" :!: :!: :!: :!:

SANS 8601: 2009 (ISO 8601: 2004) "Data elements and interchange formats - Information interchange - Representation of dates and times" prescribes a system for specifyng dates and times. If this had been done earlier, the whole Y2K scare would never have been an issue. The format which I always use (as per the standard) is as follows:
YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm:ss.ssZ
where YYYY represents the year, MM represents the month, DD represents the date, hh represents hours, mm represents minutes, and ss.ss represents seconds (with decimals). A capital "T" is used as a separator between the date and time, and a Capital "Z" can be added at the end to indicate zulu time (UTC). Similar information could be added, using a slash (/) as a separator to indicate duration.
Today's date would therefore be written as "2012-08-24", the current time would be written as "11:40". These elements can be combined as per the format specified above, where the date and time would be written as "2012-08-24T11:40. We don't need to go down to millisecond level.

Hi All,

I have managed to get the necessary "code" together to display the date as per SANS 8601: 2009 (ISO 8601: 2004). For those who are interested in changing the way the date displays when you login to the forum, you will need to use the following:-

Y-m-d\TH:i

It looks geeky and it does the trick. But where do you put it? Click on User Control Panel >> Board Preferences >>My date format:- >> Custom. Delete what is currently in the textbox below the Custom dropdown box and paste the geeky stuff in there. Voila! You now have the date in SANS 8601: 2009 (ISO 8601: 2004) format.

Darryl

P.S. Thanks for the brain teaser Trevorian.

Thank for the how to, but I''ll stick to Day,Month Year as I find it much easier on the eyes to determine any new posts for current date. I know the year and month we are in.
