Hi Einnes….what Operating System are you using on your pc? Windows 10? Is the OS fully updated? The Garmin Communicator Plugin, as we all know, is a free internet browser plugin which is used during product registration, the map update process, and other places on the Garmin website.. Which web browser are you using? Some web browsers, DOES NOT support the Garmin Communicator Plugin, currently only, I think, Internet Explorer 11, is the only one. Remember, that you will have to set IE 11, on your pc, as your default web browser, for Communicator to work. Have you got the latest version of plugin installed on your pc, laptop?.. if not, download it here, https://www.garmin.com/en-US/communicator-plugin/.
I don't know if my answer is what you're looking for, but please feel free to reply.

Hi Eddie
Unfortunately Garmin stopped support and development of Communicator in favour of Garmin Express. As Phillip mentioned most browsers are not compatible with Communicator. The only two browsers that still function are Internet Explorer 11 and an older version of Fire Fox. With Firefox you need to go into the inner workings and change a few settings before it will work with communicator.
I posted the procedure to follow to modify Fire Fox a while ago.
If you use Edge the procedure to switch to IE 11 changed with the latest update. You will now find it by clicking on he three dots top RH corner (settings) and then on More Tools then choose Open with internet explorer.
The error message you get is caused by a Java Script error. I am not sure what is causing it and if it is caused on our side of things. I will play around and see if I can replicate it .

Hi, I have done all I you have said. IE11 with the communicator etc. but still get the error. When my son gets home I will try it on his pc as it worked on his pc.
The other problem is this Garmin takes about 10 minutes to connect on the pc!!! I don't know why. all the other garmins connect quickly.

when I use the old way of updateing (POIEditor) it works fine, just no sound!!

Thanks for getting back to me

I tried AE11 it uploaded the files but Fire Fox updated to the latest version which does not support plug ins. So that on is a no go.

Hi Ennis,
The garmin 51LMT-S does the same it takes awhile to connect, I contacted Garmin to ask why the answer I received is that all garmin 51 do it but could not give a good reason or explanation of why, My Garmin 51 LMT-S drive assist with the dash cam built in does the same whether I connect to My PC using windows 10 or my laptop which is using windows 7

Eddie you say about 10 minutes to connect. I timed mine and it took 1 min 30 seconds to connect.

What I have done is to lock the units on Mass storage mode.

Method goto the Mater volume screen and press the Rrght hand top corner for 5 seconds to enter the Diagnostic Page. Touch Configuration Settings and then MTP Settings . Change form MTP Auto detect to Mass Storage then save and exit.
Try that and see if it improve your connect time.
