Hi,
If any body is interested I recieved a garmin pamflet where it states that garmin products which works with cn mapes can get a free map update until 31 March 2013 just log on to http://www.garmin.com if not registerd register your unit go to My dash board go to map updates I looked at mine and there ia a free map update.

Hi Robert,
As you say you can update your unit for free until 31 March 2013. What I also do is to load the maps to the PC and the unit. The default option is just to load it to the unit. At some point in the installation you get a button that says "Customize" or something. When you click on this you get the option.
This will allow you to view and do route planning using Basecamp with these maps.

Thanks for the info!! I went to the website and updated.
The map seems to cover quite a few more roads, especially in the rural areas of Lesotho where I checked.

Does anyone one know what size this update is? Being out in the sticks with limited bandwidth and connection speed also down I may have to give it a miss

I had a look at the size of the folder it created on my slappie and that clocked in at just over 71MB. I'd say safely double that as a good margin for error. Hope this helps.
