Kranspoort Pass

Hi all, just a friendly warning for motorists and especially "bikers". At the top of the pass, speed rumblers are being installed on both lanes, so as to control speeding.
Kranspoort is located on the national N11 road between Groblersdal and Middelburg, very close to the Loskop Dam. The road is in an excellent condition and has been extensively refurbished (construction was completed in late 2017). The pass is nevertheless still considered to be extremely dangerous, and road users should apply due caution and heed the speed limit of 60 kph which applies for the majority of the length of the pass.
The biggest hazards which could be encountered are the mine trucks which use this route, and which could lose their brakes when descending the pass under heavy load.
Be very aware when using this road.

Regards.

Yes Kobus Olivier submitted some data regarding this. We are still trying to come up with something meaningful to warn users of this pass Frans and myself will put our heads together, but any suggestions will also help.

Hi Jan.
Working with BaseCamp and T4A on my Drivesmart gps,(T4A installed) on the gps, indicates the top of the Kranspoort pass to be at coordinates S25.43955 E29.45995 and the bottom of the pass with coordinates to be at S25.44414° E29.46812°.The length of this dangerous section is approx. 2.3Km. By planning a route with MapSource between the two sets of coordinates, I attained the approx. distance.
Maybe, with regards to this data and your planning with Frans is to create a new heading......Dangerous Road or Dangerous Mountain Passes, on the Hazard section of the Rhd Forum Data.

Thanks for those coordinates.
Your suggestion is what I am leaning to. A warning at the beginning of the pass with an elaborate voice file setting out what to expect and warn of the reduced speed limit
