Problems with Cyclops on Nuvi 1200

#569

Post by Trevorian »

Has anyone experienced problems downloading the demo version of Cyclops on a Nuvi 1200? I tried to download it and was told by the website that my unit must be registered on garmin.com, which I then did. Once again I tried to download it and was told that my unit must be registered. I tried to register it again and was told that it was aleady registered. When I then tried to download it I was told that the unit must be registered. I have gone through the process several times with the same result. The website now tells me that my unit is not supported. I have taken it up with Garmin and they in turn have taken it up with Garmin in Europe. My question is, is this a problem with my unit, or is it one of numerous problems inherent in this model?

Cyclops was developed specifically for use the units that came preloaded with CN maps. The 1200 is listed as compatible but with the added note that is may be device dependent.

Here is a note on compatibility from the Garamap website

Compatibility
Garmin Safety Cameras has been optimised for devices pre-loaded with City Navigator maps. These devices are supplied with a data file of the Cyclops safety cameras database. As this file is updated regularly, by the time an end user starts using a device the file may be outdated. To avoid using outdated Cyclops data, an end user can simply go online and use the Free Trail option and will have access to regular updates for the Cyclops safety cameras for 30-days, thereafter either a One-time or One-year subscription purchase will be required.

Devices preloaded with City Navigator South Africa and Cyclops safety camera data file includes:
nüvi 30, 40, 50, 2200, 2300, 2360LT, 2460LT, 2495LT, 2595LT, 3490LT, 3590LT, 3760LT, 3790LT & nüLink! 2390T

The following devices are also compatible, but functionality is device dependant:
Legacy nüvi devices: 200, 200W, 205, 205W, 215, 215W, 300, 310, 350, 360, 370, 500, 610, 660, 670, 710, 715, 760, 860, 1200, 1300, 1310, 1410.

zūmo series devices: 220, 350, 450, 550, 660
If you are uncertain of compatibility, we recommend trying the 30 Day FREE trial of Garmin Safety Cameras before purchasing. The 30 Day FREE trial is available as an online download only, and can be downloaded from

There are no problems Running Cyclops on nuvi 1xxx family. (It is fully compatible to all versions of firmware and all Maps)
The OP is having a Registration Problem on the Garmin Website which is preventing him from successfully downloading the files needed to run Cyclops.
The Thread name should be changed accordingly.

I do not dispute that the 1200 is compatible with cyclops. But with the clause they have put in that it is device depended on cetain listed models, don't hold your breath that the problem will be solved. The 2xx models were marketed as DEM capable but all firmware updates after v4.4 rendered DEM useless on those models. That problem was logged with Garmin numerous times and to date it has not been solved.

I hope the OP will let us know what the outcome is so that we can all learn together.

This is the way its going CN Maps, Cyclops, 3D,Live Traffic, Lane Assist, Junction View, etc etc etc.

As I understand Garmin's wording, the unit is compatible but the functionality may be different. I have taken the issue up with Garmin, and I'll keep you posted on what the outcome is. Thanks for the replies.

Problem Solved. The good people at Garmin could also not download tha data; the problem was with the unit. They confirmed that the Nuvi 1200 is compatible. As the unit was still under warranty, they replaced it (with a better unit).
