TMC Update

Let me break the ice by saying that the TMC actually surprises me lately! At times that I am sure the message would not have gone through the system, it actually pops up within a few minutes with the appropriate warning or clearing of.

What I have learnt is that one must give it a few minutes/km's from departure for the traffic status to work it's way to your route. Typically when I drive off from work I KNOW what route it is going to send me on and most times it actually starts it's "Severe Traffic Ahead" in time for Raapenberg Rd, else I take the liberty to preempt it.

It has also caught me for a sucker when I assume the N2 is the better route as it is everyday BUT there actually is a hold up (Demonstration destroyed all the traffic lights on my route) but it still tries to get me out of it if it can!

Only hiccups lately is when a new map version finally gets released, it does not download here at work. For the rest - plain sailing!

Just a note to all the TMC users. Altech Netstar is very serious to maintain and improve the TMC. They are registered on the forum and I noticed that they monitor this topic daily. This is your direct line to them, please use it to give them feedback on any problems encountered. I am sure they would appreciate positive feedback like the post by Otto as well. Feed back by the forum users can only assist in improving the service to the benefit of all.

Any idea if they are likely to expand their "Footprint"?

I was recently in Pietermaritzburg, and found the Traffic info invaluable.

Just wish it would become useful to those away from the big smokey areas!

Feed back from Altech Netstar is that they are currently expanding their coverage for the Pietermaritzburg area. Feedback on which areas to cover will be appreciated. Also which other areas/towns/cities which currently is not covered would you like to have on your wish list.
