If the topic was started in English it becomes an English topic and all dialog must be in English (Google Translations Accepted)

If the topic was started in Afrikaans then Everyone must Answer in Afrikaans. (Google Translations Accepted)

Changing the Language within a Topic is not nice.
This would be quite a simple rule to Moderate and would meet the needs of most users.
Having said that, I think it is a plausible idea. What is the concensus from the rest of the forum? Admittedly, I love to chop and change between english and afrikaans at times. This is due to the fact that what I want to say can be expressed more colourfully in a particular language.

FULLY agree.
So why can't the language issue not just stay/continue as at present.

Hi all,

I have installed a Google Website Translator just for kicks. All I ask is that those members who are well versed in languages other than English and Afrikaans, give it a try to see how accurate it translates the website. If the accuracy rate is greater than 90%, then hats off to Google for getting it right. My curiosity got the better of me again and I wanted to experiment with a translator. It does not mean that it will be implemented indiscriminately.

Darryl

P.S. I had a look to see if it supports any of our other nine official languages and sad to say, that is probably something Google is working on as we speak.

@fugglefeet The Translator works well !! As long as you don't chop and change in the middle of the page. (Like)

I use to enjoy the Old Garmap Forum, Lot's of Tutorials, Good Moderation, Enthusiastic Members, New Posts Daily etc. etc.
I've noticed a lack of participation here and quit a lot of the "Wax in the Ears" and "Negativity" syndrome which is quite prevalent in our Country at the moment.
I'll keep an Eye on this Forum to see how things develop.
BTW "English is also not my mother tongue" but I've learned to adapt to it and make it a Colorful as I can.

Thanks Joe I will close it in a day or two to allow for more comments and suggestions from those members that have not been around since this was first posted.
Here are a few interesting statistics. The Garmap forum had 6800 registered members compared to out current 117.
Of the 117 members 12 never visited the forum after registering. 6 Of these never visited the forum after we changed our name. 64 Never participated in any discussion.14 Only posted once and 5 posted twice. We have had 760 posts in 131 topics. The site was visited 1036 times. We have deleted a few spammers that managed to sneak through our anti spam system but they never managed to post any spam. We regularly have visits form the USA, UK, Russia, Latvia, China, Germany are a few I have noticed.

I think the most important thing is by visiting the forum, be up to date with other members ideas
and have fun reading all the posts. Say nothing doesn't mean you dont want to join or discuss any
topic with others.
Probeer om elke aand die forum te besoek en geniet dit. My hoeveelheid e-posse wat ek elke aand
ontvang, laat my nie toe om gereeld deel te neem aan gesprekke nie.
Keep it up and thanks to everybody. "Stilbly is ook 'n antwoord"
I'm still in contact with old members of the previous forum.
Afrikaans, English? what the h.. as long as you don't: "I demand" or: "I speak only"

Hi all,

OK, so IF the need arises for us to have the website translated into other languages, we know it can work with Google Translate with good accuracy. Since this forum consists of a greater majority of South African members (who are resident in South Africa, in some instances employed abroad and maybe South Africans resident abroad), we'll try to keep it informative, light-hearted and "Souf Efrikan".

As requested by Joe I am closing the topic having given it ample of time to run its course. A PM to one of the administrators will open it again if the need for new contributions arises
