Hi Joe,
Hope it works. I will try it out. It
will spare me that time with the other
software.
I think we reach the end off al long road.

I have tweaked the topic heading a bit to reflect what the body of the topic evolved into. Should make it easier to search for it later on.

I think valuable information is being exchanged here and it can only be of great value for all who uses a GPS. This is what the technical discussions forum was created for

Joe:
This software takes away all the Waypoints you don't need, but
changes your Route where your Nuvi wants to take you, the
shortest Route to your destination.
So whats the use of all that Waypoints guiding you in a direction
you want to go??

Think man, we are allmost finished. :???:

Joe: I take my words back. The first time i did a Route with simmulator something
went wrong. I tested the software now with 21 Waipoints and it worked 100%.

Thanks again Joe for your time. You made things much more easy for everybody
that got the same problem of "TRIP PLANNER vs ROUTES"

Jan thanks for changing the topic and letting us finish this boring topic.

I would not categorise is as boring. It is a subject that often comes up with the new range of Nüvi's and I am glad that it is solved. At least now we have something we can refer to when the need arises.

Hi Johan,
Not boring at all, very interesting for me in fact.
The secret is that you must "set location" to the first point in the route when simulating.
You cannot use "Custom Waypoints" in the routes, You must use only "Map" Waypoints and addresses, cities etc etc."Map Stuff"
You must have the same map active in Mapsource as in the GPS from begining to end.

Also I've found out that if the GPS recalculates using our "custom routes" then it just plots a course to the endpoint.
I suggest keeping the route twice in the gps, once in the normal way with flags and again using the "custom" method, just in case something goes wrong.

This is how I do it.

Start Mapsource Empty.
Select the Map you are going to use.
Create the route using only the Map, Use Custom Waypoints only for reference, if you must. (do not use them as route points)
Send the Route to the Device (Trip Planner Route with Waypoints and Flags) (Make sure you have the same Map selected on the Device)
Then save as GDB
Open WinGDB3 and do the conversion.
Open the new GDB in Mapsource and send to device. (Trip Planner Route without Waypoints and Flags)
Set the GPS in Simulation Mode.
Set Location on the GPS to the same point as the start of the route.
Simulate Route.

Hi Joe, just a joke when i mentioned the word "boring".
Agree 100% to everything you explained and i think it's
a good idea to load the original .dbf (Trip file also)

In most of my trips i need only the beginning and end points
and use Waypoints to "GUIDE" me in a direction witch i want to go
and then remove all those unwanted pitstops.

A trip from Potchefstroom to Pretoria via Krugersdorp will shout at you
when you arrive at Krugersdorp: "MOVE TO THE HIGHLIGHTED ROAD"
Wrong lane, make u-turn, sh... I want to go to Pretoria. No, you must first
deliver that bread and then drive to Pretoria.

Things are now much more easier,
Thanks
