Using trip vs route planner on the New LMT Series GPS
I'm in the dark about the new LMT series Garmin models (2495/2595 LMT). Can Basecamp route planning still be used on these models. They all have City Navigator preloaded (micro SD Card?).
I'm in the market for a new GPS but preplanning the route in Basecamp with T4A is a must. The Garmin website does not really give any information on the GPS/Basecamp intergration.
Can someone enlighten me on this function please.

Re: New LMT Series GPS
New Gps's use Trip Planner.
Trip Planner is Different to Routes on your 1410.
Although you can plan Routes using Basecamp and they do show up in Trip Planner, It uses a different system to what you are used to on your 1410.
Trip Planner does not make one long route from Beggining to End, It splits the Route into a number of Trips and it will navigate each Trip individually.
The end result is of course the same. You start here and you end up there.
It is not a good idea to have lots of "shaping points" with trip planner. Once you have downloaded a "route" to your GPS you cannot get it back from the GPS.
You will have a backup copy in Basecamp.
The Units are preloaded with City Navigator Southern Africa and you will have to purchase T4A seperately.
City Navigator is preloaded in the Unit Memory and an SD card has to be purchased seperately.
City Navigator Maps on the LMT Models (bundles) have Free Lifetime Upgrades, You never have to pay for CN Maps again on that particular unit.

Basecamp most certainly works with my 3590 without any problem, however, Mapsource does not work with the 3590.

Two questions:Hennieb wrote:Basecamp most certainly works with my 3590 without any problem, however, Mapsource does not work with the 3590.
1. Do you transfer the route normally from "Send (Routes) to GPS" within Basecamp like one does with the older models or is there a trick to it.
2. Are you satisfied with the 3590? I'm thinking of buying the 3490.

Re: New LMT Series GPS
@Montana I'm extremely happy with my 3490 so far.
Right-Click the Route in Basecamp Send to (Connected GPS or Memory Card)
@Hennieb To Get your 3590 to work with Mapsource, do this,
Press Volume Icon in Landscape mode (Screen will change to the slider to set volume)
Press and hold top right corner for +- 10secs You will get diagnostics page.
Scroll down to MTP Settings Press
Select Mass Storage then Save
You can now see your device in Mapsource.
Send the Route to GPS and then it will appear in Trip Planner as a Trip.
I've been working with just 1 route at a time in Mapsource and sending to memory card.
I'm a bit scared of sending to internal memory just yet. (Still early Days)

Re: New LMT Series GPS
My apologies, I didn't see the 3490 in your signature. Transfering routes seem easy enough. I had a look at the Internet and it seems that lots of folks do not like the Trip function. Do you use T4A on yours? If so, is it a normal map transfer?dasilvarsa wrote:@Montana I'm extremely happy with my 3490 so far.

There is a User on this Forum called Anja that works for T4A, She might be able to answer if T4A MAP is compatible with 3490.
I would suggest transferring T4A to a Memory Card using Mapsource or Mapinstall and then inserting the Memory card in the nuvi.
it will install as SD /Garmin/Gmapsupp.img and the nuvi will see it.
This is the safest way to load a second Mapset.
The Internal memory should always be reserved for the Pre-Loaded City Navigator Maps.
I have tried OSM Free Map and it works fine with DEM and 3D Terrain Selected, so you should get with T4a as well.

Re: New LMT Series GPS
Montana, I'm very happy with the 3590 and have had no issues thus far. Currently there are 4 maps installed on my 3590 and all are selected at the same time. Three of these maps are part of the standard CN maps and one is SSA. The maps are:
1. SSA 2012.03NT
2. Southern Africa DEM (CN)
3. CN Southern Africa NT 2013.30 3D (CN)
4. CN Southern Africa NT 2013.30 ALL (CN)
These maps function side-by-side without the GPSr hanging, like some older GPSr used to do in the past when more than one mapset was selected.
The screen is very nice - sensitive to the touch and very visible even in sunlight, however, it also gives more reflections of light and shadow than my 710. This obviously can be sorted by covering the screen with an anti-glare stick on.
Sending a planned route(s) from Basecamp to the GPSr is similar to Mapsource.

Re: New LMT Series GPS
Sorry, I almost forgot. I think the only major difference between the 3490 and 3590 is the screen size with the 3590 having a screen of 5" across (which is quite nice if age is getting to your eyesight). But I stand to be corrected....

Re: New LMT Series GPS
You are quite correct. It's only screen size. How does one load the traffic POI's nowadays on the 3490/4590? Where is it available and does it still work with POI Loader?Hennieb wrote:Sorry, I almost forgot. I bought the 3490 today and is quite impressed so far. Beautiful responsive screen.
Does the traffic receiver work in SA? I received the arial for it with the GPS.
