#5146

Post by Phillip Coetser »

Hi all, and once again, for those forumites that qualify, City Navigator Southern Africa 2020.3 is here. Update your Pnd/s with the latest version of Garmin Express. Remember to make a backup of your unit/s, in case something goes wrong you could go back to the previous version.

Thanks for the heads up Phillip.
Both Phillip and myself are experiencing problems installing the update it freezes at around 7.6% and then give an error message. Maybe those of you with ADSL or Fibre optic connections will have better luck

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 2495LMT in 2016. I was able to update the maps until Q2 of 2018. Suddenly, when I want to update the maps via Garmin Express, the update section tells me that I need to pay for one of two options. Either a single update for R599 or a Pay once update for R849.

I am quite pee'ved to state it at least, as the NUVI 2495LMT comes with free lifetime maps. So it seems my lifetime maps ended in 2018.

On another note, I battled like crazy to register on this forum. It tells me that my IP address is labeled as "spam". I had to register on the cellphone to be able to join the forum. Maybe admin can resolve this?

Sorry for not introducing myself as my mindset/mood is not right.

Thanks in Advance, sorry for the rant.

Welcome to the forum. According to this website, https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/97243 your unit is discontinued, and therefore, free lifetime maps is no longer available for your unit. I assume that Garmin SA, as Jan suggested, will install the latest map set, ie City Navigator 2022.20 as a once off, but unfortunately there will be a co payment to be made, as you mentioned in your post. Alternatively, you could also contact, Navworld in Cape Town. Address: Unit 7, M5 Freeway Park, Uppercamp Rd, Maitland, Cape Town, 7405
Phone: 021 510 0224
But there is another way of obtaining a legal, free map set for your nüvi 2495LMT, here http://garmin.openstreetmap.nl/ All you have to do is, select the tiles you need, type in your email address in the block provided, and ensure that you have enough data to download the map set.
Hope this helps.

Garmin still support the Nuvi 2495 and the liftime maps are still avilable for the unit. I do the updates for a friend of mine and the lastest update installed. I notice that there are a few software updates that need installing.
I run the IP through one of our spam data bases and it came out clean (stop forum spam) but the register log show that the two other data bases that software use has flaged the IP as spam related. We are currently on our way back hoem after a visit to Cape Town and I will ask Darryl to have a look when I /am back Hoem

Thanks Phillip. I came across the mapset you referred to. I might even buy the mapset from Garmin, however I am not sure if the bottom option will allow me free maps in the future.

Thanks Jan, so far I am able to log in as normal. It was just on the registration page where I had issues. Thanks for investigating.

Yes you should not have any problems but you may be flagged somewhere else who uses ZB Block. If it is something else causing our system to mis behave it needs fixing. Security and all IT related issues are Daryyls department and he will sort it out I am sure.
