Problems with CN 2014.3

I installed 2014.3 earlier this week on my Nuvi52. Noticed last night when I set the unit up for a trip for today that the distance to my destination was double the known distance. I then stalled CN 2014.2 on a SD card to have something to compare it with. With 2014.2 activated (2014.3 deactivated) the distance was as expected. This morning I set off with only 2014.3 active. The first thing I noticed was the speed display was halve of the actual speed. I then switched to 2014.2 and everything was back to normal. I tried a hard reset but that did not resolve the problem With 2014.3 active the distance to destination remain double and the speed display halve of what it should be and with 2014.2 every thing normal. Any one having similar problems with 2014.3?

I haven't noticed this problem.
Can you post +- from where to where and I will simulate.

I switched off all avoidances.
Faster Time 87 Km (Through Henneman)
Shorter distance 70 Km (Through Virginia)

Switched on Avoidances u-turns traffic ferries car share lanes unpaved roads

Shorter Distances 139Km (through Virginia and Winburg)
Faster Time 154 km (through Theunissen And Winburg)

Try to switch off Avoidance Unpaved Roads and use Shorter Distance it should be right.

I think that in 2014.3 they've flagged additional roads as unpaved roads "Maybe because of Potholes "

yes that may account for the calculation problem but it does not account for the speed display only halve the speed you travel at. My double cap bakkie has an speedo error of only 2kmh at 100 kmh the unit indicated that I was traveling at 56kmh Switching back to 2013.2 and the speed indication matches the speed indicated on the speedo of the bakkie.

Mine's showing the correct speed when I'm driving here in the Big Smoke, I'll test it when going out of town, but that might not be for a while.

It is certainly a weird one that I've never heard of.

There is something you could try.
In the Nuvi Drive rename /.system/gmapprom.img to ./system/gmapprom.wasimg
The Nuvi will then stop seeing that Map (CN 2014.30)

Now take a clean empty memory card and use MapInstall to install CN2014.30 to the Memory Card.
This will ensure that you only have 1 detailed map on the Nuvi.

Test on the Road.

We are camping at Aldam for the weekend and I tried the unit to route to our weekend retreat at Marina Letata on the Vaal dam. This should take you along the N1 to Vereeniging and then the Villiers road etc . The route mainly uses major highways and any change in categories of minor roads should have very little or no effect. Same problem 2014.3 indicates almost double the distance 2014.2 does. I will re install the map directly from the website tomorrow and if the problem persist report it to Garmin.

I think that the problem is localised in your unit and not General.
Maybe some NVRAM corruption or such.

the 2014.3 map set is a problem it will take you along unpaved roads and ignore paved ones. It may be because some paved roads have been classes as unpaved but it should then not discount that road and takes a 70kmh detour using unpaved roads along that way specifically set to avoid unpaved roads and shorter distance. I have had a few email responses to this post that is experiencing the same problem. Non however reported experiencing any problems with the speed display. I will give it a go again tomorrow.

Hi,

I have loaded CN 2014.30 on my device and I regularly use it for work when I have to go to customers I haven't visited. So I can also give some feedback if I experience any anomalies. Currently I don't have any other mapsets installed, and I will also give it a dry run to customers I have visited before.
