Absent Landlord

Post by fugglefeet »

Hi all,

Yes, I have been scarce over the past number of months. I have occasionally logged in to check how things are going and to occasionally reset logins for users on the forum. The forum has been able to carry on with little to no intervention to keep it going. I did a quick check this morning to see that the forum has grown to a steady 745 members since it was started in July 2012. We have been on the block now for 6 years and survived relocations, outages and an array of other bugs (spammers). So here's to another many more years to come. For those who have noticed, I have since had to relocate to the "Groot Appel". Fortunately with the forum being hosted on a server in Cape Town, I didn't have to worry about moving any hardware on which the forum was being hosted. To Jan and Frans, thank you for your work in keeping the forum ticking over and assisting with the admin and RHD.

Welcome back Darryl. All have quiet on the western front. We did increase a bit in membership but I also had to delete and block a few that seem a bit unsavory. Hope you are all settled in your new environment.

Hi all,

I have been pretty absent and I am blown back at how the forum has grown since I had last posted here. We have had our fare share of MySQL errors and that was normally resolved with an email to the web service providers. I have also on numerous occasions wanted to upgrade the forum software, but delayed it due to not finding good anti-spam measures while also being preoccupied with my mistress. Fortunately the missus also knows about her. Here's a link to images of this demanding lady:-

Big Lady

There have been times where I worked 24 hours straight to get it operational. The trouble was worth the effort and with me being the new kid on the block, I have had to dig deep to fix it or otherwise go with good old common sense resorting to basic cleaning. At the same time I can't believe we have survived the Vrot Appel for almost two and half years, counting the 3 botched hijackings I faced while here. What was my saving grace on 2 instances was the design of the car's gear lever that had the culprits confused about how to drive it away.
