At the Other Forum there are instructions on how to convert 3760/3790 to 3490.
Hi Joe,

Best done when the warranty on the device has expired. Imagine the embarassment when you have to take it to Garmin because you bricked it with firmware for a 3490.

I don't like posting links for obvious reasons.
If you google this exact sentence convert 3790 to 3490
and you take the first hit you might find the info.

Posting the link is not the problem, as acknowledgement to the source of the information is being given. Understandably so the concern exists whether to allow information about altering the firmware of a device outside of its normal operation should be presented (be that in any form of media). There is in essence nothing wrong with presenting information, as the choice ultimately rests with the individual as to what he/she is going to do with the document. Caveat Emptor.

P.S. I have done my fair share of hacks of just about everything conceivable and I am glad that I have done it, as I have learned in the process how to fix things. I have not exploited this for the purpose of making an income out of it and thereby defrauding the individuals who have spent endless hours making these products/services for our enjoyment.

Sometimes mods of Forum A don't like posting of links to Forum B because if Forum B is better than Forum A Members might move !!
This happens a lot on Forums that receive income from Adverts on a by Visit Page Basis or on a By click Basis.

Any idea what happens if you install to one of the "future PND" products?

That note is usually put in where the map product may not render correctly if installed on that specific model. It indemnify them from any refund claim if you do not heed the warning. I have been getting a warning when unlocking DEM for the 200 S, when it was still available, that the unit is not DEM compatible for a few releases. I have ignored that warning and been using DEM on the 200 for a few years without any problems. Granted my firmware on the unit is still version 4.4 any subsequent firmware update render the DEM display useless. So unless someone takes a chance and try it on one of those models we will never know.

I personally have no issue with forum members posting links to other forums/websites/internet content/blogs. In a world where technology has made our world smaller, we will bump into each other again along the way somewhere. Forum members will come and go, and the forum will be here to serve the needs of the individuals as their needs arise and change. Fortunately we are not reliant on any form of traffic to generate income to sustain the forum. It was the thrill of the challenge that saw this forum coming to life for the greater good of the GPSr user community of South Africa. Enough said. So, Joe can I ask of you to post the link if you want to (and that applies to other links that can be of benefit to the forum as a whole)?

OT: Thanks. I must phone Nirvar at some stage. I take it, it was at a Print Africa.
